Nailsea and Torquay receives cash injection from BSF Scheme

MJN Colston have been appointed on two schools in the South that have been granted money under the Pathfinder Scheme of Building Schools for the Future.

The first is the £30 million pound scheme that will transform Nailsea School, in Bristol to a 21st century state of the art education environment over the next year and a half. The school was selected as the first pathfinder school project for the Department for Children’s School and Families (DCSF)

The new building will be constructed near to the existing school to minimise disruption and will accommodate up to 1500 pupils and upon completion the school will host an internet café, lecture theatres, auditorium, a cinema projection screen, a state of the art IT, media areas and a café.

The highlight of the school will be a two storey building at the central hub of the school known as ‘The Drum’. The school is using a number of on-site renewable methods, which will deliver a BREEAM rating of Very Good.
The second is the £22 million pound scheme in Torquay which will totally transform the old Torquay Community College that was originally built in the 1930’s. The new college will transform teaching and learning through well-designed buildings which provide inspirational environments for students and teachers alike.

The new building which is due to be completed in the summer of 2010 is designed to incorporate a series of small schools that will house around 200 pupils each. As the students move up through the years they will also be able to study in a vocational skills centre so that they can broaden their learning experience. The new school will have an adult learning centre for the community, a library and a crèche.

MJN Colston will be providing the mechanical, electrical and public health services on these projects and full details regarding our involvement can be found in the Education Sector.
