Hackney Academy

The new £27m Hackney Academy provides 900 places for pupils aged 11-16 and 240 sixth form places.
Initial building works commenced in February 2008, with the first 180 pupils taking their place at the Academy in September 2009. The new building provides a first class learning environment to deliver a broad and rich curriculum.
With natural ventilation and an emphasis on high levels of natural light the building is designed to be highly efficient. This reduces carbon emissions as well as being conducive to a highly productive learning environment for pupils.
MJN Colston responsibilities include the co-ordination, supply and install the Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health Services. MJN Colston worked closely with the designers and project team through the two stage tender process. Along with our own subcontractor and specialist supply chain we are able to provide best value for the building services and achieve costs within the project budget. Some of the environmental systems included are ground source heat pump and solar thermal for the heating and hot water.
