C Bay, Cardiff

MJN Colston Ltd were appointed to deliver the design and installation of the Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health Services.
This bespoke project presented many challenges to achieve the stringent acoustic demands required in this ‘State of the Art’ Recording & Rehearsal Hall and Office Accommodation. The double skinned ‘box within a box’ construction of this Hall called for innovative M&E solutions.
The building will be used and occupied by the BBC and was developed by Concert Bay Ltd which is a subsidiary of Sir Robert McAlpine Enterprises Ltd who are co-funding the scheme.
The brief called for the space to be adaptable to enable the presence of film crews to record live performance.
Working with our design partners Hulley & Kirkwood the team developed bespoke variable height integrated chilled acoustic elements and a ventilation system capable of running at extremely low noise levels. The cooling and ventilation systems have to deal with large heat loads from the occupants and equipment.
The engineered solution ensure audio broadcasting quality second to none.In addition to the above, 3,600m² of Category A office space over 4 floors is to be provided.
