Elmsleigh Shopping Centre, Staines

Retail Therapy has undergone a full make over at Elmsleigh Shopping Centre in Staines. The transformation was undertaken in three separate phases. What was a tired 1970 shopping center is now a modern, light, open and airy retail center that is a pleasure to visit. Phase One was completed in October 2004 and was undertaken whilst keeping the shopping centre fully operational. This saw all the malls given a new lease of life with glass roofs across a large part of the center. Providing the mall with a glazed focal entrance, lots of natural daylight and mechanically ventilated conditioned space breathed new life into the center. Value £7.8m

Phase Two was completed in 2007. A quarter of the overall scheme fell under Phase two, this involved the redevelopment of an area known as the Forum. This major reconfiguration of existing units and new extension to the first floor created a new 50,000sq ft shop unit for BHS, and one of the largest Costa coffee cafes in the country. Value £6.2m

Phase 3 will be an extension to the Southern Mall. It is intended to be completed in 2010. This will include 125,000sq ft of residential made up of 114 apartments, 35 of which are affordable. Refurbishment of South Street bus station will integrate with the Southern Mall. New large retail units and a cafe are to be situated near the South Street entrance.

MJN Colston are proud to have been involved in the first two phases and to have provided the co-ordination and installation of the Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health Services connected with this project. Phase 2 was a negotiated contract and MJN Colston worked with the project team to deliver lighting, smoke control, sprinklers, ventilation and telecomms.
